The service provided by Slefdrive 4x4 (specifically, Hans) could not have been better. He was patient with our many questions, quick at solving the multiple issues that arose from airlines changing our flights, listened to our requests, and delivered the experience we were looking for; drives away from the crowds, tons of sites to immerse ourselves in the majestic nature of Namibia and Botswana, and peace of mind that we had backup when the unavoidable challenges of traveling during Covid. Hans's experience and knowledge of both countries were instrumental in creating a perfect route for our month-long self-drive in Namibia and Botswana.

The areas of improvement we encountered through our month-long journey don't have anything to do with Selfdrive 4x4 as a company but with the reality of traveling during Covid. A couple of the B&B's could have been a bit cleaner and offer better food, but we understand that the travel industry is struggling and it might be hard for some to keep up the "lights on" when there was almost no tourist.: Product of service:

Selfdrive4x4.com provided an itinerary and helped me choose the trip and features that suited me best. They did all the work regarding booking accommodations and keep me informed all along the way. When I encountered minor problems with my vehicle during the trip, the insurance company chosen was responsive and helped resolve the issue quickly. When there was a minor issue with one of my bookings, they booked an alternative location and informed me via text message.

Strengths
I like the shared dropbox folder with files that I could review as they added and updated them. They were very responsive when I wrote questions and asked advice. The standard 22 day itinerary offered a varied and interesting tour of the country.: Improvements or suggestions
I would have liked the option for more discussion before making a choice of itinerary, perhaps with an option of extending the entire trip by spending more time in one location or another. The web site does indicate that this is possible, but when I asked questions about it via email, the person I corresponded with did not pick up on it. In the end, I think the 22 day self-drive tour suited me well, so I am not disappointed, although I might have extended my trip by a few days if we had discussed this possibility more during the booking process.: Product of service:

I quickly got an answer to my request for planning a trip. Most other travel agencies surveyed didn't even come forward. We were able to adapt a tour already offered according to our ideas.

Fast and quick response during ordering. All well prepared, lots of info on the drop box. Bookings were correct. Very nice camping spots , like Kubu island and Khwai. No negative experience related to your organization

Focusing on 4x4 cars fitted with a snorkel would be much welcome. This equipment should be a total must. Better advice on the driving conditions in some areas that could be tricky, like the Khwai river area. Maybe suggesting customers to try and find other people to drive through those areas with in order to make sure they're not getting stuck anywhere alone, which could quite easily happen in the Khwai river area. We'd suggest also to complement the provided equipment with a kindle filled with content explaining the specifics - and notably the geological ones of Namibia, but also maybe historical, social and political - of the areas to be driven through.: Product of service:

Namibia and Botswana August 2016 with Selfdrive Safari (2 adults 1 kid) incl. through Chobe and Moremi NP booked in march 2016: Selfdrive 4x4 was the only travel agency which was able to book the campsites in Chobe and Moremi only a few month before we startet the trip. The contact to Hans Schoelink was close all the time and all the questions we had have been answered. The trip was very good organized and the gps was very helpful. We had a great time and I would book again

The 4x4 Toyota Hillux was planned to have a double tank for long distance and helpful equipment - unfortunately the hire company couldn't provide us with such a car. Was it not booked ? The website of Selfdrive 4x4 says, that the company only uses such cars. Since we got extra cannisters and did not get into troubles it worked well, otherwise I do not know what had happend if we got stucked into deep sand.: Product of service:
